Dominion Youth Services is committed to providing early intervention for today's youth. Our Educational Services program is dedicated to helping the students we serve function successfully in the least restrictive environment possible and be maintained in a public school setting. We provide services to a diverse array of students and we take pride in our ability to work as a team in order to provide the highest quality of services to students. Whether it be through providing crisis intervention, behavior modification, physical support, social support, mentoring and/or academic assistance, we are committed to seeing our students succeed.

Our 1:1 counselors are expected to perform in a flexible manner based on the particular needs of their student. They work under the direction of the classroom teacher and provide services in adherence to the student's current IEP (Individualized Educational Plan). Our 1:1 counselors provide constant supervision and support to the student through all daily activities and transitions, as well as providing needed behavioral, emotional, physical and educational support in the classroom. They motivate the student to be successful and responsible by assisting the student in developing positive coping and communication skills, as well as positive peer relationship skills.

Dominion Youth Services' 1:1 counselors have significant experience working with children and/or adolescents. Almost all of our counselors have collegiate level education in specific areas of behavioral science, special education or human services. While our 1:1 counselors come to us with a knowledge of basic counseling and behavioral management techniques, we provide them with intensive training in such areas as the Therapeutic Options of Virginia (TOVA), crisis intervention strategies, CPR and first-aid. In addition, we make available to our 1:1 counselors a library of resources that include the most up to date information on such topics as autism, attention deficit disorder, emotional disturbance, mental retardation, special education, stress management, child and adolescent psychology, intervention strategies, crisis counseling, learning disabilities and behavioral strategies for classroom management.

Dominion Youth Services requires exceptional attendance from our 1:1 counselors as well as a commitment to their student for the entire school year and/or summer session. Once assigned to a school, they function as part of the school staff and follow all requests and guidelines of the school. Our 1:1 counselors possess the flexibility to adapt their role in the classroom to the individual needs of the student as well as the classroom environment. Above all else, Dominion Youth Services' 1:1 counselors value their students and hold them in high, unconditional positive regard and are committed and dedicated to their well-being and success.
